An exceptional location

Are you looking for something special for your holiday, for an exceptional location? Then you are welcome in 'ievers', a lovely Frisian church converted into an attractive and luxurious holiday home.

Holiday home ievers is nice and spacious, modern and comfortable. It has four bedrooms, two bathrooms and can accommodate up to 10 adults.

The large garden has several terraces: some in the sun, others in the shade provided by fruit trees.

People with a disability can also readily access and enjoy ievers.

That not only we are enthusiastic about ievers proves the German magazine Landlust with this laudatory article.

Cozy dining with friends.

Snugly warm

You enter ievers through the old church tower. At the top, the church bell from 1537 still indicates the time. However, you barely hear the clock when you’re inside.

The church hall is a large but cosy room with a kitchen, gentleman's pew, modern living table, pulpit and sitting area. At the top of the impressive staircase (incl. Stairlift) is the living room, with a great view over the Frisian countryside. In the back, you will find four bedrooms: one behind the pulpit, three in the modern extension.

During winter, the holiday home is snugly warm because of the underfloor heating, while it’s nice and cool in summer. Solar panels and a heat pump make the house environmentally friendly.

Unique atmosphere between organ and pulpit.

Enjoy in the church hall

Whoever books ievers opts for a holiday home with character. In the center of the former church hall, under the impressive vault, is the long modern living table for 10 people.

Also eye-catching are the centuries-old pulpit, the wood carvings on the gentleman's bench and of course the church organ that hangs high in the room.

Here and there in the church you can see beautiful art objects from Galerie de Vis in Harlingen. They change every now and then, so you might see something new during your next stay in ievers!

Kitchen for enthusiasts

The kitchen corner of ievers is equipped with a 6-burner gas stove, refrigerator, freezer, dishwasher, oven, microwave, kettle and coffee maker.
Anyone who likes to cook can enjoy themselves here. In addition to all kinds of kitchen utensils, there is a large amount of crockery.

Thanks to a cooking island, there is enough space to cook together. The open kitchen layout allows you to keep in touch with the rest of the group while stirring the pan.

Are you staying for a week or more? In the utility room you will find a washing machine, tumble dryer and iron.

A room with a view

On the first floor of ievers, you will find a spacious seating and television corner. From the couch, you have a beautiful view over the vast green meadows.

If you walk through the patio doors and out onto the terrace, you can see the cows, sheep and horses even better. And you can smell the Frisian countryside! In the distance, the local train puffs its way from Leeuwarden to Stavoren.

In order to be able to read leisurely on the large couch, ievers has a small library, which is sure to contain an interesting read for people of all ages.

Orange room

All bedrooms are on the ground floor. The orange room is adjacent to the large bathroom and is therefore very suitable for elderly persons or people with disabilities. The window offers a view of the garden and the fields.

The bed has a high-low function. By default, the bed is made with a double duvet. If desired, we can exchange that for two single duvets, or we can split the bed into two single beds.

In each bedroom, including this orange room, you can regulate the temperature with your own thermostat.

Red room

The red room has a double bed, sink and garden door. You have a view of the garden.

By default, we make the bed with a double duvet. If you like, we can swap that for two single duvets or turn it into two separate single beds.

Just like in the other bedrooms you can regulate the temperature with your own thermostat.

Blue room

Ievers’ blue room has a double bed and a sink. The double garden doors offer a view of the garden and the meadows.

By default, we make the bed with a double duvet. Optionally, we can also make the bed with two single duvets, or we can split it into two excellent single beds for you.

Each bedroom has its own thermostat to control the temperature, so that goes for this blue room as well.

Green room

The green room at ievers is most suitable to be used as a family or children's bedroom. This room has a bunk bed (200 x 90 cm) as well as a sofa bed (200 x 140 cm) and it has a sink.

You have a view of the garden.

In every bedroom, including this green room, the temperature can be regulated with a separate thermostat.

Ideal for larger groups!

Relaxing in the garden

Around the church is a spacious, sheltered garden with beautiful old fruit trees, a barbecue and a swing. There is also a large dining table with benches.

In the garden you can choose where you want to sit; on one of the terraces in the sun or in the shade of the trees, if you prefer.

From the garden, you can take the staircase to the upper terrace. There you will have an unhindered view of the horizon.

Excellent bikes are waiting for you in the bicycle shed. You can use them for free.

From the top down

From the seating area on the first floor, you can immediately access the outdoor terrace via the French doors. From there, a gradual staircase leads to the church garden below. You can also walk directly into the garden from different bedrooms.

Would you like to sit in the sun with a newspaper? There’s always some area on the terrace where you can catch the sun. Prefer the shade after all? The trees around the church always ensure that there is a cool spot to be found.

There is a swing in the garden. However, the lawn is big enough to kick around a ball or to play an outdoor game. The materials for games are at your disposal.

Upstairs terrace with a view

The outdoor terrace of approx. 30 m2 offers an amazing view of the grass-green meadows, with horses here and there, as well as the world-famous Frisian cows.

On quiet and hot summer days you can hear the sheep below pulling the grass out of the ground. Then you can cosy up with a book or headphones on the big sofa. Lovely!

In and around Oosterwierum

Oosterwierum (Easterwierrum in Frisian) is a small village in 'de Greidhoeke', the heart of Friesland. Leeuwarden, Sneek and the Frisian lakes are nearby.

The Swette runs along Oosterwierum and it’s quite famous because it’s the first part of the Elfstedentocht. A branch of this little river, the Dill, flows into a harbour in the heart of the village.

On a terp (mound) near the village lies the hamlet of Tsjerkebuorren with its beautiful medieval church tower. From ievers, it’s a fifteen-minute walk through the meadows.

Oosterwierum is a great base for hiking and/or cycling trips. The Jabikspaad, a 2700-kilometre pilgrimage route from the Frisian Sint Jacob parish to Santiago de Compostela in Spain, runs alongside ievers.

The Âld Toer

Just outside the village is the hamlet of Tsjerkebuorren. The beautiful church tower on top of the mound is from the twelfth century and is a real eye-catcher. From ievers it is a fifteen-minute walk, straight through the meadows.

More than a hundred years ago, the Reformed Church at the Âld Toer was demolished. In Oosterwierum, the believers built a small new church on the Fûgelsangleane. The age-old church bell started a new life in that tower.

The new church building is now holiday home ievers.

Coffee and tea room Wolkom

Within a five-minute walk from ievers, you can find the Tea Garden De Dille (De Dille 3).

Tea garden De Dille has excellent coffee/tea and delicious home-made cake to offer. If you wish you can also order a good glass of wine or a delicious, locally brewed beer. When the weather is nice, the terrace is open longer.

History

On 16 July 1902, the church guardians of the Reformed Church in Oosterwierum signed an 'Independent Contractor Agreement'. Following a design by architect H.J. Gros from Rauwerd, contractor/carpenter S. Saakstra and fellow contractors or guarantors D. Saakstra (merchant in terp soil) and F. Bruinsma (cow milker) can demolish the old church on the Tsjerkebuorren and build a 'NieuwKerkje' (small church) in the 'Buren in Oosterwierum'. They receive the amount of f 4,974 for this.
